Merry Christmas!

Date : 12/24/2021 10:00 (JST) Category : Blog

Today is Christmas Eve! We have had most of all Christmas events and things here in Hungary this year. I went to see ballet “The Nutcracker” last weekend. This is one of my favorite things. I bought the season tickets for ballet every year! But I missed all the shows last year! I was very disappointed. Anyhow, we can go to the theater this year! How wonderful it is!

St. Nicholas Day

We celebrate St. Nicholas Day on December 6th.

A long time ago, St. Nicholas gave money, food, sweets or presents to the people. The kids believe that story, and then they put their boots, cookies and milk by the window. The next morning, there are some chocolates, candies and so on for a good kid. If there is a stick in the boot, a kid has to have a good attitude next year!

The Advent Wreath

We have Advent traditions. The Advent Wreath has four larger candles on the ring and puts one pink candle in it. We put out lighting the candles every Sunday as a way for the children to count down the days until Christmas.

There is a meaning each week!
The first week is Hope.
The second week is Peace.
The third week is Joy.
The fourth week is Love.

And also Advent Wreaths were made of evergreens, which twisted together in a circle to symbolize continuous life across the seasons, from the death of winter to the new life of spring.

I made it by collecting the materials used last year!!

Christmas Eve and Christmas Day

I have written before that the Christmas tree will be brought by an angel in Hungary on December 24th. She is said to bring the Christmas tree at that time, so when she wakes up on the morning of the 24th, the Christmas tree arrives and the whole family will decorate it.

The shop closes at 14:00 and there is almost no transportation after 16:00. We will go to church at night, so tram 4, 6 and some night buses run in the city.

On Christmas Day, I always go to church in the morning. And after that, I go to a Canadian family who invites us to Christmas Dinner. We will meet around 3 o’clock. We had a great time until about 8 or 9 o’clock. We won’t have Christmas dinner this year as well. I hope we will have it next year!

I wish you A Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year!
